EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL (ESA) EVALUATIONS
- An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letter is a clinical document issued by a licensed mental health professional confirming that an individual has a mental or emotional health condition and that their dog or cat provides therapeutic benefit related to that condition. ESA evaluations and letters are supported by the Fair Housing Act (FHA) and aligned with HUD guidance, allowing individuals to request reasonable accommodations in housing, including housing with no-pet policies or pet-related fees. Note: ESAs are not service animals. ESA protections apply only to housing, not public places.
